Carlos III fue coronado como rey del Reino Unido en una solemne ceremonia celebrada este sábado en la Abadía de Westminster, en el corazón de la capital británica.
En el momento más importante de este acto protocolario, el arzobispo de Canterbury, Justin Welby, colocó sobre la cabeza de Carlos III la suntuosa corona de San Eduardo, del siglo XVII.
Tras colocarle la corona, el arzobispo gritó a la congregación «Dios salve al Rey», tras lo cual se escucharon trompetas.
Luego de terminar la ceremonia, Carlos III y Camila salieron de la Abadía de Westminster e iniciaron la procesión hacia el palacio de Buckingham a bordo de la suntuosa Carroza Dorada de Estado.
Acompañados por 4.000 militares ataviados de gala, los reyes saludan a la multitud apostada en la ruta de dos kilómetros hacia su residencia oficial en Londres.
Desde hace días, numerosas personas esperan en las inmediaciones del palacio y a lo largo de la céntrica avenida The Mall para ver en persona el paso de Sus Majestades, y miles de ciudadanos asisten hoy al desfile pese a la lluvia que cae sobre la capital británica.
La procesión está dividida en ocho grupos, que incluyen a miembros de las Fuerzas Armadas de diversos países de la Commonwealth, así como de las distintas divisiones del Ejército británico.
Esta es la primera ocasión en la que la lujosa carroza dorada ha sido utilizada por la familia real británica desde el Jubileo de Platino de la reina Isabel II, en junio de 2022.
